Did you know the following facts about the English Language? I found some of these to be very interesting, particularly fact number three.

1. In the thirteenth century, “awful” used to mean “worthy of great respect, or fear”. It wasn’t until the eighteenth century that the meaning of the word changed to mean something negative.
2. The words orange, silver, and purple do not rhyme with any other word. (I confess to sitting for an hour trying to debunk this with zero success.)
3. Ninety percent of English text consists of only one thousand words.
4. Shakespeare invented many commonly used words, such as bedroom, hint, gossip, and outbreak.
5. A pangram sentence is one that contains every letter in the language. For example: Farmer Jack realized that big yellow quilts were expensive.

I’m a strong advocate of journaling and enjoy stream of consciousness writing. Personally, putting pen to paper to write down my thoughts is the best way for me to articulate myself.

Ninety percent of the time, it’s only after I’ve word-vomited onto the page that I truly understand what I was trying to say. Also, what I’ve written down almost always surprises me. It’s fascinating how a sentence can spark a snowball of writing that brings me to an unexpected place.

I love this quote. It doesn’t only apply to writing. It applies to just about everything in life.

If I waited for perfection, I probably would have never tried baking artisan breads. If I waited for perfection, I probably would have never moved to a new county where I didn’t know anyone. If I waited for perfection, I probably would have never started my own business.

If we waited for perfection, there are many things we probably would never do. This is an excellent quote to come back to when you’re feeling anxious and uncertain about taking action on something. I come back to it often to remind myself that perfection isn’t the goal. The goal is to consistently show up and give 100% of myself.

Stop waiting for perfection. It’s overrated.

While reviewing an assignment my tenth grader wrot

While reviewing an assignment my tenth grader wrote for his English class, I noticed he was mixing up words like “to” and “too” quite a bit. He rolled his eyes at a few of my mnemonics, but had to admit that they helped. Teenagers 🙄.
