No matter how hard you work on your story, there will always be something you want to change or fix. That’s just the nature of writing. But here's the truth: nothing is perfect, and that's okay.

Margaret Atwood said, "If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word."

I love this quote. It doesn’t only apply to writing. It applies to everything in life.

If I waited for perfection, I wouldn't be seeking help and advice on an idea that has been tugging at my heart strings. If I waited for perfection, I wouldn't be going after my dreams.

If we waited for perfection, there are many things we would never do. This is an excellent quote to come back to when you’re feeling anxious and uncertain about taking action on something. I come back to it often to remind myself that perfection isn’t the goal. The goal is to consistently show up and give 100% of myself.

Consider this your permission slip to put your story out into the world.

Stop waiting for perfection. It’s overrated.

Chapters give the reader a chance to think about what’s happened in the story thus far and anticipate what happens next. A question I see writers asking quite often is: How important is chapter length in the grand scheme of things? My answer to this question is that chapter length is indeed important, but you shouldn’t stress over it.

Writing good dialogue is important. If your dialogue is flat, it’s unlikely readers will be able to engage with the story.

I often see manuscripts with characters who all speak alike — making them voiceless in a way. When pulling a line of dialogue from anywhere in your book, the reader should have an idea of who is talking.

Here’s how to avoid this:
Give each main character their own unique way of soeaking. Allow them to have special slang or expressions they like to use. As readers, we "hear" these differences as individual voices.
